The Minga Cafe in Dunnville was kind enough to let us use their community space for our meeting. We had three new organizations present - The Dunnville Salvation Army, Child Nutrition Network, and DREAM.
Dunnville Salvation Army was selected as the recipient of the group donation. A total of $3,650 was donated to Dunnville Salvation Army. Update - With a few late donations, our total is now up to $3,900 And the numbers are in! 100 Women Who Care is proud to announce that Love Be'in Me is the successful candidate of the group donation - $4,300!
Love Be'in Me in Memory of Tracey Hoskin-Hartwick is raising money to build a 1km walking track around the Fisherville Lions Park. They have been the driving force behind this new project. This group was organized after a tragic event this fall and they have raised over $50,000 towards their goal already! You can read more about Love Be'in Me and Tracey in this Sachem article https://www.sachem.ca/…/7918932-mother-teacher-runner-trac…/. We would also like to thank the representatives who spoke on behalf of The Caledonia Food Bank and the West Haldimand Hospital and Healthcare Foundation. Meeting 6 was held at the Halidmand County Museum and Archives in Cayuga where the display was "Women Wielding Power - The Road to Equality" was quite appropriate. The museum was celebrating 100 years of women's right to vote in Ontario!

They plan to use the money to purchase a new bariatric bed for their clients. Learn more about HAC's programming here www.haldimandabilitiescentre.com The group also heard presentations from two great local organizations:
Can't wait to see how we grow at our next meeting - See everyone on November 14th Our April meeting marked 2 exciting milestones:
The 3 local organizations nominated for this meeting were:
Alicia's presentation about the Powerhouse Project and their work with young caregivers spoke to our members the most and was chosen as the organization to receive the group's donation - a total of $3,350! Wow! So great to see our donation totals getting larger! It was an icy and snowy evening, but a group of women still managed to get together to make a difference in our community! We heard from 3 local organizations and I think everyone learned something new about these great organizations in our community:
Therapeutic Paws Haldimand Chapter (presentation made by Nicole Selby) was the successful recipient and will receive $2,700. Therapeutic Paws is a non-profit organization of volunteers providing animal resources for human needs (physical, mental, educational, motivational, socialization) through regular visits to hospitals, residences, schools, etc. Our other presentation was for Community Living Haldimand. Community Living will recieve a donation for Andrea & Julie. Community Living Haldimand is one of the places that Therapeutic Paws visits with their pets - which just goes to show how connected our local non-profit organizations are. Thank-you to everyone who helped make the first meeting of 100 Women Who Care Haldimand a success! 29 women became members including 3 brave women who nominated and presented on a local charity that they care about. Community Support Centre of Haldimand-Norfolk (CSCHN) was the successful recipient of a $2,000 donation! CSCHN's mission is to enhance quality of life in our community through partnerships, promotion and the provision of health, social, community and recreation services. Presentations were also made on behalf of the Alzheimer Society of Haldimand Norfolk and the Hagersville Food Bank. As suggested by one of the members, these organizations will also each receive a donation (the individual donations from co-founders Julie and Andrea). |
